The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans association designed to be mutually helpful to both veterans and the community. American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans’ organization. They’re committed to bettering the lives of youths, the community, and the lives of veterans and their families. In order to become a member of the American Legion, you have to have served the country honorably.
Wauconda American Legion, which was established almost seventy years ago, is one of the best in the entire country. When Wauconda’s post opened, it was a simple, small building with just a kitchen, bar, and meeting room. As their membership increased, the post kept adding onto the building to accommodate their growing numbers. Today the Legion has grown to include a larger kitchen, a spacious hall for events that can hold up to 200 people, and a back bar. While many American Legions and their bars are open only to members, Wauconda’s is open to the entire community. Their bar has some of the best prices in town, and people love this post so much they’ve expanded their parking lot. The kitchen serves great food including Taco Tuesdays, Burger Thursdays, and a special lunch available daily that is usually under $4! Talk about reasonable prices! Be sure to RSVP for their Steak Dinner offered the third Saturday of every month from 5-8pm. Guests choose from a Ribeye or Filet that’s served with a salad, baked potato, and veggies all for only $20! The dinner is promptly followed by an upbeat evening of Karaoke.
Wauconda American Legion is extremely community oriented with many members participating in different service events. The staff at the Legion are primarily volunteers. This post donates the majority of their funds to veterans, but they also donate to the Boy Scouts and scholarship funds for Wauconda High School. Wauconda American Legion hosts many Boy Scout events along with events open to the community such as ballroom dancing and lightning raffles on Sundays from September until May. They also have a private gaming room for their video slot machines. So try your luck, grab a beer, and spend some time with your community at Wauconda American Legion!
